History

Like any other School, Nutangram High school (H.S.) has a long History of its own. First of all a Proposal came from the Rotary Club, Durgapur for setting up of a Jr. High School at Nutangram, the then a remote village on the bank of Damodar. It was probably in October 1965, the Head Teacher of the village Primary School (which is still inside the High School Campus) called some Headmen of the surrounding villages. The humble so-called uneducated villagers responded to spread the lamp of Education whole-heartedly. They held a meeting at their village Laxmimela informing all about the setting up of a new Jr. High School. All of them were ernthusiastic and they decided to help in setting up of the school. Some donated land, some cash & kind and others labour. In a festive mood they began their mammoth task of setting up a school. It was in 1966, the Class V started in a club room on the bank of Mondal pukur (Mondal Pond) of the village Nutangram. In the mean time a New Class room (the walls of which were made of brick but the roof was covered with thatch and straw,) was erected on the bank of the River Damodar. With the help of the Rotary Club, Durgapur and some local people the school was first recognized as a two(2) class Junior High School  vide letter of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education with No : 1071/G dt. 16/1/1968 w.e.f. 01-01-1967. The dream of the common villagers had come true. Thus the sapling of a future palnt was planted.

From time to time the school was upgraded to its present status as a Higher Secondary School.First recognition of the School as a four (4) class Junior High School came vide letter of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education with No :  74/Gr dt. 12/1/1972 w.e.f. 01-01-1971. The School was first recognised ad a X-class School vide letter of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education with No : S/42 dt. 23-2-79 w.e.f. 1978. And finally the School was recognized as Higher Secondary School vide letter of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education with No: DS(A)SD/05/Recog/09 dt 25-6-2009 with Institution Code: 114199.

Despite imparting highest quality of education for more than a fifty years, the institution is never exhausted to shape and mould the newer mind. With the lineage of legendary teachers who served here, our erudite faculties always encourage students to think ahead of time, keeping their feet grounded in the iconic tradition they are wearing on their shirts' sleeves. The institution envisages deep learning coupled with an able physique in the students so that they are metamorphosed into ignited souls, endeavouring to revolutionize the society.
