Magura High School (H.S), today a 51-year aged institution, situated at Magura, Block- Joypur, Dist-Bankura, was the brainchild of the local education –lovers. The thought of setting up a school in an SC/ST based backward area came into reality in 1969- thanks to some enthusiasts like Ganesh Chandra Bagli, Satya Kinkar Roy, Asim Kumar Roy, Rampati Chowdhury, Bhutnath Mukherjee, Sudhanshu Chatterjee, Mathur Chandra Mal, Gobinda Karmakar, Samar Chowdhury, Shambhunath Mondal and many others. In early stage the school was patronised by Teacher Gourmohan Chowdhury and President-Award winning teacher Hrishikesh Sinha Mahapatra. The first Headmaster of the school was Gobinda Prasad Ghosh, who along with other teachers and villagers brought up the school with much care and affection.
The Govt.-aided school was upgraded to a secondary school in 1978 and the first Madhyamik Batch of the school was in 1980. Gradually the school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary school with only Arts stream in 2006. The school became a Govt.-Sponsored school in 2015.
The school produced so many gems who in their later life established themselves in different spheres of the society and added glory to the school. There are now almost 700 students ( Boys only upto class VIII as there is a Girls’ school in the area) and 27 teachers with 5 non-teaching staff including a librarian.
The result of our school in the Board exams is up to the mark but we all have great expectations to do better in future years.
