There was not a single Hindi medium school in Howrah district. Pandit Madhab Mishra ,a man of letters who was also an editor of a weekly newspaper named Suddeshana published from Varanasi felt the need of establishing a Sanskrit Pathsala in Howrah and Calcutta.He created a trust for the said purpose and with the help of some industrialists and social workers started a Sanskrit Pathsala in the year 1920 namely Madhab Sanskrit Pathsala. Afterwards an English school was also founded by him.
Now the Hindi school was named as Salkia Shree Satyanarayan Madhab Misra Vidyalaya and applied for its recognition.The school was recognised as High school by University of Calcutta in 1928.It was first Hindi Medium school in district of Howrah and fourth Hindi Medium High school in the state of Bengal.Students of Bandel and Champdani used to come for learning.there was no Hindi Medium school in Shibpur , Howrah.So a large number of students from Shibpur and Botanical Garden used to come for learning. It was a free school and no fees was charged from any student.The school was run in rented building with the help of donations from charity trust SadhuRam TulaRam, a reputed cotton industrialist and creator of Radha Krishna Trust allowed the school to carry on the work of giving education to Hindi Medium students in its building at 173 Jogendra Nath Mukherjee Road Howrah Pin -711106 , West Bengal. The Sanskrit Pathsala was run in one of the rooms of the school and in rest of the rooms classes were held from class I to X.
The school was closed during the Second World War from the year 1939 to 1946. After the Japanese bombardment in Calcutta , the school was occupied by the British Defence Department and it was Training Centre of Air Raid Precaution(ARP).The school reopened on 1st January 1948.the result of the school was very brilliant and the school gave 100% successful result with establishment of W.B.B.S.E..The school got recognition from said Board a large number of students used to come and a large number of Hindi Medium Schools were established in Howrah. In 1961,the school was upgraded by the efforts of Shri Nand Kishore Chaturvedi . Some more teachers were needed for teaching Science, Commerce and Humanities . It was not possible for the Management to run school merely on donation. The Managing Committee of the school agreed to impose tution fee on the students and requested Shree Nand Kishore Chaturvedi to take steps for bringing the school under grant in aid scheme. The school was allowed some financial grant from the Education Department and the teachers were paid salary as per Grant in Aid Rules. The Teachers of the school became very happy . The school was granted a lump sum grant in 1971 and was brought under full deficit grant scheme.
In 1976 the school upgraded to class 12 + College (H.S) and the school became a Government Sponsered Institution in 2013 by the efforts made by Shree Nand Kishore Chaturvedi.It is still running in the same building(173 Jogendranath Nath Mukherjee Road Bandhagahat Salkia Howrah -711106 (West Bengal)) as a Government Sponsored Institution.
