History

The School was founded by Late Shiv Kumar Khanna, ExDeputy Mayor, Calcutta Municipal Corporation in the year 1967 with the mere student strength of 150 only including all the three wings Boys, Girls & Primary. Mr. Khanna was the lover of education particularly the poor children dwelling the slum areas of Beliaghata, Rajabazar. His love for Basti poor people inspired him to build the school with a dream and it was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Justice Sri Shankar Prasad Mitra and then the central Education Minister, Hon'ble Dr. Pratap Chandra Chunder. Today, the school is imparting education to about 5000 students in different wings and also open the Higher Secondary in the Boys & Girls section, it is very painful for us to deny the admission further due to lack of space. Though the surrounding Basti belongs to parental body. I would request the Hon'ble MLA Sri Paresh Paul to help us to expand the building so that demand of the students can be fulfilled and can establish a College for boy & girls, which is the need of the locality. In this endeavour I would like to seek the helping hand of Hon'ble Education Ministertoo.

Apart from academic activities we have established Computer Training Centre and also have extra curricular training like Tailoring, Cooking. Beatification and also providing free education to illiterate aged persons of the locality. The students of Khanna High School are affiliated with Students Health Home for regular health check up and treatment. Many needy students are being provided with free study andother facilities as required. The School has now compled illstios 50 years through many ups and downs. Thousand of aspiring Engineers, Doctors, Teachers, Writers and many reputed citizens passed out from this esteemed Institution. Dy. Mayor Shiv Kumar Khanna started the School to educate the people in and around the locality. But today Khanna High School is a well reputed School & hundreds of students from far off distance also blossomed from this Institutions spreading the fragrance of education in all parts of our country. The School with started with 150 students only flourished to such an extent that it is sometimes difficlt to accommodate more them 5,000 students.
