It was 1937. The Second World War had not started yet. Dhakuria, in the southern part of Kolkata was still village like. Here and there, some brick and mortar houses were being made.   The local people felt the need of a school nearby. Sri Suresh Chandra Gangopadhya, an enthusiastic and enterprising man founded the school in memory of his father Late Ramchandra Gangopadhya on the auspicious day of 4th January, 1937. The school was thus named ‘Dhakuria Ram Chandra High school’. The school was started humbly with a few handful of students. To make arrangement for their sitting,  a single  room with thatched roof was  generously given by Sri Harendranath Chattopadhya.

The number of students started increasing slowly. A single room was not enough for them. So the school was shifted to 10 Gariahat Road (South) a few years later. But it was also a temporary arrangement. A new school building was necessary to properly sit the increasing number of students. The teachers came up this time with a novel idea. Loans were taken from the Provident Funds of teachers and the work for the new building started on the present address i.e. 10 Station Road, Dhakuria. The State Government also provided necessary aid. With everyone’s effort, the gate of the new school-building was opened in 1962. The school celebrated its Platinum Jubilee (75 years) with a year- long programme of various activities which culminated in 2012.
