Baidya Para High School

History of The School

Years ago in 1959 the school was organised by a group of people named- Lt. Biswanath Chakraborty, Lt. Nabakumar Majumdar, Lt. Dr. Anil Kumar Banerjee, Lt. Amarnath Bhattacharya, Lt. Nitai Chandra Sarkar, Lt. Krishna Chandra Roy, Lt. Prafulla Kumar Dutta, Lt. Murari Mohan Chakraborty, Lt. Rasomay Pal

They had built this school which was called Baidya Para Primary School. During the early times, education in the school went quite nicely.

During the early times - Biswanath Basu, Basudev Bhattachaya, Lt. Samar Dutta, Lt. Ardhendhu Banerjee and Biswanath Ghosh were the teachers in charge of the school, and Lt. Prafulla Kumar Dutta was the chief teacher-in-charge of the school.

The School was 1st started in a rented building at the second floor of 48, Santosh Roy Road. In the year 1971, at the month of August the school was relocated to the present location which is - Bhuvan Mohan Roy Road, Barisha, Kolkata-700008.

In the year 1962, at the month of January, the school was promoted to a Junior High School with the permission of The West Bengal Government. From 1959 to the month of June of 1968 the list of Headmasters are as follows - Lt. Samar Dutta, Lt. Binay Krishna Basu, Avinash Halder and Lt. Dhirendra Nath Gupta.

In the month of July in 1968, Raj Kumar Banerjee stood up as the headmaster of the school. From day one he tried to get the school promoted atleast to a secondary school, but to get the school promoted, a large number of teachers and staff were required to educate the students. But thee were insufficient amount of teachers and staffs.

In the mean time Raj Kr. Banerjee went on to the West Bengal Government and The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, requesting to get the school affiliated to The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education of class X (ten). In the year 1968, education for class IX had started in the school and in the same year the school was promoted to a secondary school by The West Bengal Government. Soon in the year 1970 the school was affiliated to by The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education for which the students of class X now became able to appear in their board exams in the school.

At that time - Lt. Balai Chandra, Lt. Krishna Chandra Roy, Lt. Surendra Nath Barman, Lt. Shubhamay Dutta, Shambhunath Dhar, Taraknath Dhar, Shyamapada Roy, Shanti Priya Roy were the people who bought 10 cottahs of land for the school to have its own building. The school now had its own land but capital was required for the construction of the school building. Money was borrowed from the local people as much as they could give and that is how the construction of the new building had started.

Late in the year 1970, the building where the school was previously located, caught fire . All the books, important documents of the school, etc. had burnt out. The situation was so bad that the education could not be continued at that place and it was at this time when the education of the school started at the present location. For the sake of capital, construction of the new building was held up incomplete and the education of the school was going on in the present building which was not even fully constructed. However, the number of students went on increasing day by day.

Late in the year 1984, The Government donated a sum of rupees 48,000 (forty eight thousand) and with times the construction went on slowly day by day.

Sir Raj Kumar Banerjee had been the Headmaster of the school from 1968 to the month of november 1992. From 1992 to 2000, Sir Amarnath Ghosh was the chief-teacher-in-charge. On 12th July 2001, Sir Shashanka Shekhar Jana became the new Headmaster. At this very time, the school was promoted to a Higher Secondary School under The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Shashanka Shekhar Jana was the Headmaster till the 21st of July 2005 and againg Amarnath Ghosh was the chief-teacher-in-charge from the 1st of August 2005, till the 31st of August, 2007.

1st of September 2007, Aurobindo Basu went on to be the Headmaster of the school.

In the year 2008, the school had its Golden Jubilee.

The education of Arts and Commerce was going on quite nicely under the Higher Seconday Division. Only the Science stream was left out. In the Golden Jubilee year the dream of the teachers was to have the the science stream in the school. A laboratory was required for science stream, but, again, the school faced the same problem of the capital. For the construction of a new laboratory, yet once again, money was borrowed from the local people and the local clubs. Amongst the people and the clubs, Barisha club donated the highest amount of money and in such way a laboratory was constructed on the 3rd floor of the school building.

In the year 2009, subjects such as Geography and Computer Application was introduced under The Higher Secondary Division. Science stream was introduced at this time. In the year 2010 the vocational stream was introduced with the subjects Electrical Households and Computer Hardware.
