History

GARDEN REACH MADHYAMIK VIDYALAYA started its journey back in 1980 to cater to the academic needs of the children of local  areas of Garden Reach.  It started as a Co-edcational istitution with the tender students at the premise of the adjacent Harimohon Ghosh College .Then it was shifted to its present address at O-55/ A , Fatehpur 2nd Lane, Garden Reach . The bulding was an urban Primary Health Centre. Later this premise was handed over to the Education Deptt. for the school by the local Surai zamindar family. The building was renamed as Mihrlal Surai Bhavan and it was later expanded and developed as the school required. It is now a fully flourished three-storied building with two wings. The school was recognised as a 4-Jr. High school with Co-education by  West Bengal Board of Secondary Education w.e.f. 01.01.1985 and as a High school w.e.f. 01.05.1996. It  has been continuing its journey since overcoming all odds.
