History

Arjuni Palli Unnayani Gyan Mandir is situated near Khemasuli Railway Station, by the side of the National Highway No. 6. This school was established on 8th January in the year 1968.
In the mid 1960s the process of education of most of the students of Arjuni and surrounding areas was destined to come to an end only after class four as there were no high schools nearby. Most of the families of lower income groups could not afford sending their children to the high schools located in distant places. Under these circumstances, some conscious and enthusiastic people very earnestly felt the need for a high school. Although sincere, yet some scattered efforts to set up a school, were being made during a long period of time. Their dream acquired a genuine form when ultimately the school was established at Bhurur Chati village on the aforesaid date. The school did not have any building of its own in the beginning. It was run at the house of Sri Krittibas Mahato, a leading member of the school committee. The first Headmaster of the school was Sri Bhushan Chandra Mahata, a man with a generous heart and sincere devotion to education. Sometime later, a three room school building was constructed. The school received government sanction in 1969.
After ten long years of patience and tireless efforts, it was resolved by the distinguished personalities of all the concerned villages, that the school would be transferred to Khemasuli - the place being a junction point of three blocks – Kharagpur, Jhargram and Sankrail. In 1981, the school building was newly constructed at its present location.
The seed that was planted more than half a century ago, has now become a full grown tree. The Institution that began its journey with fifty or sixty students, is now imparting knowledge to more than a thousand students every year. It is now a reputed school of this remote area of Paschim Medinipur district. The unity, the patience and the enthusiasm of the local people have always been the strength of this Institution and in future years it will continue to be so.
