BRIEF HISTORY OF MAKUM GAON PRIMARY SCHOOL

In the year of 1964 started as Night School Centre at the resident of Late Man Bahadur Mangar (Centre Bajay) at Centre Gaon Upper Makum to impart Adult Education to the adults. Then in the same year formed an Attendance Committee in the President-ship of Lt. Man Bahadur Mangar and the donated 70 Decimal land for the construction of a Centre Primary School, later on, named the school as Mahakum Gaon Primary School and at present as Makum Gaon Primary School where Late Birkha Bahadur  Tamang (Ex. Army) and late Ganga Tshering Lepcha joined in the School as Night School teacher for Adult Education.

                The Attendance Committee of Makum Gaon Primary School applied so many prayers to the Department of Education and in the year of 1971 got the government recognization from the District School Board, Darjeeling, Primary Education, West Bengal, and the school was upgraded as Makum Junior High School and got government recognization in the year of 2015 by the State Government of West Bengal and school is running on smoothly from pre-primary to class VIII with four regular teacher, one Pay-Band teacher, four volunteer teachers in the Primary section and three volunteer teachers in the Junior High section.
