St. Mary Goretti Girls’ Primary School is run by the Daughters of St. Anne’s Congregation. At first 4 nuns Rev. Sr. Margaret Mary, Rev. Sr. Augustina, Rev. Sr. Aloysia and Rev. Sr. Getrud came to Asansol from Kolkata. Here they started their main motive, to impart education. It was when there was no proper Hindi Medium schools for girls. Among the four sisters two could speak Hindi – Rev. Sr. Augustina and Rev. Sr. Gertrud and the other two could speak Bengali – Rev. Sr. Margaret Mary and Rev. Sr. Aloysia. So, communication became easy to fulfil their motive. Rev. Fr. Dragmon was the founder of the school and by his endeavour, enthusiasm, helpfulness, bravery and polite behaviour the school was started smoothly. Initially education was imparted under the shade of trees. The sisters used to visit homes to collect students for school. Fr. Dragmon and the four sisters devoted their entire life to impart education.
In the beginning there were many teachers to help these sisters. They were :- Mary Sylvester, Margaret Rakilo, Monica Peter, Rosa Gaitano, Mary Amansius, Safeda Jospeh and Anna Fidelis. They have given their immense contribution towards the development of the school.
