Mr. R. Sen a Resident of Ghoom brought into reality a long awaited dream of a school in 1929. A small room was hired at Rs.6, and a teacher with a salary of Rs.12 was employed for 19 students initially. Such was the need for a n educational Institution that by the year 1951, the school was extended till class V. On 14th May 1952, the foundation stone of the school was laid down by His Excellency Dr. H.C. Mukherjee the then Governor of West Bengal. Due to heavy enrolment, the standard of the school was gradually increased till class VII. Finally the school achieved the distinction of a Junior High School with class VIII in the year 1959. The institution was further recognised as a High School from the board of Secondary Education on 1st January 1962. In 1997, to cater to the increasing demand for higher education in the locality, the school was extended to a Higher Secondary Institution. 86 years have passed since its inception and the school has been serving its utmost in imparting knowledge to students hailing from the nearby rural areas and tea gardens. The vision of our school has changed from imparting basic education to bringing about all round development through hard work, co-operation and dedication from both teachers and students. Our endeavour is to help our students to grow into knowledgeable, disciplined and confident ladies |
