BISHNUPUR SIR ROMESH INSTITUTION

It is holy temple where Vidyarthis feel at home. It is a place of peace, where teachers can discover their inner self. It is a heritage institution, where ex-students find their childhood,it is a place where patriots learned integrity and secularism. To the guardians it is a second home of their wards and for the rest of us it is Bishnupur Sir Romesh Institution.

Bishnupur Sir Romesh Institution (Govt. aided and recognised) founded as far back as 1880, is situated in Rajarhat-Bishnupur, North 24 Parganas. This school was established by Sir Romesh Chandra Mitter, first Bengali justice and first Indian Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, with the objective of introducing English education in Bengal, at the initiative of then Governor General, Lord Rippon. The school, since those days of foreign rule, has carried on and upheld the torch of learning to promote education among the poor and rural people. Many eminent persons like Professor Satyendranath Bose, the great scientist, and Bibhutibhusan Bandopadhyay, the great novelist, visited the school.

The Institution has developed in many ways - now having tall buildings, well-equipped laboratories, a library, gymnasium, computer centre, children's saving bank, playground, study centre at Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya, teachers' co-operative etc. The present roll strength is around 2100 (boys and girls), the number of teaching and non-teaching staffs is 37 and 5 respectively, 4 para-teachers and two computer teaching staff. The process of development is still continuing. Vocational Courses have been introduced from 2009-2010.

The school celebrated post centenary silver jubilee from 29th January to 1st February, 2005, in a solemn and dignified manner. Thousands of ex-students, guardians, teachers, organisers and well-wishers attended the four day long function held at the school. Inauguration of the post centenary building, Unveiling of the bust of Sir Romesh Mitter, Literacy drive in the five adjoining villages, A voluntary blood donation camp by 125 donors, A promise to donate eyes and body by 125 donors posthumously, Debate, Quiz, Discussions, Cultural programmes and publication of a Souvenir were among the programme lists of the post centenary silver jubilee celebration.
