The quiet, forlorn look of the school premises stirs into life at around 10.30 am as the school readies itself for the morning assembly. The full-throated Jana Gana Mana sung in unison invests life and energy, setting the tune. As the students troop into their rooms and the classes start, a 'silence' is heard except for some teachers' voices and one or two bursts of laughter. The first period being over, it's the usual round of busy footsteps in and out till the next class begins. A few laboratory classes are astir. A long queue is seen at times before the library, the librarian defies time with her brisk hands. Some classes are into the field for their physical education and a whiff of fresh air. As the bell goes at the end of the four period, a meandering queue forms immediately for the midday meal as the teachers in charge monitor and take counts. The school courtyard is full of children running about, gossiping, playing pranks, eating -- enjoying themselves the way they like. The recess over, the cacophony gives way to order. Teachers resume their classes, labs are back into action, the playground again explodes into activity. Teachers, ever accessible to the students, are seen checking their answer scripts or into one-to-one doubt clearing sessions. Thus it goes on till 4.30. As the shadows lengthen under a declining sun, the school is over. It's time for the students to troop home. The campus makes it sure that order and discipline go hand in hand with the joy of being and learning together.
