Teacher-in-Charge

We are at the end of academic session 2018. Looking back to the passed years and months (2017 & 2018) we found that sailing of the ship of the school was more or less smooth in spite of a number of hurdles and obstacles. Here I am presenting a short report of the school for the year 2017 and 2018:-
Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Exam 2017 and 2018:- Our students did well in both examinations in 2017 and 2018. Chandra Mani Basnet with 84.7% topped the school in Madhyamik Exam 2018. He was also the Kalimpong District topper among the male candidates in this year’s Madhyamik Exam.
Master Pranay Khanal of class XII Hum, topped the school in the Higher Secondary Exam 2018. School wished all passing out students with ‘ BEST WISHES & BLESSING’ for their future endeavor.
Annual School Day 2017 and 2018:- Every year 24th of May has been celebrating as the School Foundation Day. In both years, school day was celebrated in a grand manner. In 2017 among with us we had Sri. Nagendra Hamal, Retired Deputy Director, Dept. of Education, Govt. of Sikkim, Sri. Kranti Prakash Rai, Retired D.F.O. Govt. of West Bengal and Sri. Pravakar Dewan, Senior Advocate, District Court, Kalimpong as the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively. All are the former students of Kumudini Homes. In 2018 Sri. Kamal Kafley, retired Govt. Officer, Govt. of Sikkim, Sri. Surendra Pd. Pandey a business man and a social worker and Dr. Persuram Poudyal, Principal-in-Charge, Namchi Govt. College, Sikkim as the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively.
Appointment:- After a long gap of about 15 years, 11 Assistant Teachers were appointed on 23.04.17 on the basis of the recommendation of Central School Service Commission, Kolkata. It was a great relief to the school. Still cases of 6 volunteer full time teachers are lying pending awaiting the kind gesture of the concerned authority. Big thanks to all concerned authorities. In the office, Sri Lalit Chettri has been promoted to Group C from Group D staff which is also a great relief to the office.
Co-Curricular Activities:- To train and to make the students fit to participate in the various competitions and programmes, and also to help a student’s all round development school has been organizing various activities like Sports Meet, football, volleyball tournaments, table-tennis, badminton, chess, Debate, Quiz, Power point presentation competition etc. This year our school football team was to satisfy in the semifinal in Kalimpong but were able to snatch the Championship trophy both at Garlang, Peshok Tea Estate and Lamahatta H.S. School, Lamahatta, Darjeeling in October 2018.
N.C.C. Troop JD 341:- Under the supervision of Third Officer Amrit Lepcha our students are getting NCC training and are participating in the various level Camps – Battalion, Directorate etc. With the motto of ‘UNITY AND DISCIPLINE’ NCC cadets are trying to learn these in their age to be a disciplined members of the society in future.
Scout Troop:- A scout troop under the guidance of Sri. Animesh Pradhan and Sri. Durga Prasad Dahal – two Scoutmaster are functioning well, imparting training to the young boys to be a disciplined, helpful student and a good future citizen of the country.
Retired Staff Photo Gallery:- It’s a human nature to forget, so we are of Kumudini Homes family. But to remember the contribution given in the field of education by our retired staff (Teaching, Non-teaching), and to put them in our memory a Photo Gallery of retired staff have been arranged which was formally opened on our Annual School Day. i.e. 24th of May 2018.
Infirmary:- Taking into consideration of need of the immediate first aid to the students in the school, in case of any injury or sickness, under the initiative of Kumudini Homes Employees Co-operative Credit Society an Infirmary with appointment of a nurse attendant was started. In this, the role of Kumudini Pariwar and Sri. Surendra Pandey, the former Vice President of School Managing Committee is very important.
Medical Check up & record:- Miss Indu Rai & Mr. Amrit Lepcha, two Assistant Teachers with Ms. Saroja Thapa- the nurse have been given the responsibilities of the maintenance of health record of the students. Necessary medicines etc. have been supplying to the students with the help of class teachers of the respective classes. Dr. Singh and Dr. Mrs. Mira Singh deputed by the Govt. have been visiting school for the medical check up and prescription of medicines.
Retirement and Farewell:- Sri. P.N. Sherpa, Head clerk, after serving the school for a long time finally retired from the active service on 31.03.18. Similarly Sri. Shiva Prasad Chettri, Head Teacher, Primary Section and Smt. Basanti Chettri, Asst. Teacher, Primary Section also retired w.e.f. 1st January 2018 and 1st of July 2018 respectively. To honour them a felicitation and farewell programme was organized by the school in October 2018.
Visit of Dignitaries, Officials, Visitors:- School has been visited by a number of dignitaries, officials and in various occasions; On 9th of October Dr. Soumitra Mohan I.A.S. Commissioner of School Education, Govt. of West Bengal,; Sri. Manoranjan Roy Joint Director, School Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal along with Sri. Sanchabir Subba, Member BOA, GTA; Mrs. N.L. Sherpa, Executive Director, GTA,; Sri. Rajib Pramanik, D.I. of Schools S.E; Sri. Dulal Sarkar D.I. of Schools P.E. paid a visit to school and offered valuable suggestion for the development of the school. Beside, school has also been visited by former students specially from Bhutan chapter of Kumudini Pariwar namely Sri. Gayatri Prasad Sharma, Dr. Mani Kumar Rai, Sri. Gyem Tshering and Sri. Kionchuk Wangdi.
Awards & Felicitation:- Two students namely Master Kushal Sharma of class X ‘A’ and Master Chandra Mani Basnet of class XI Science have been awarded Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Student of the Year Award by Himakshara Rashtriya Parishad on 28th of July 2019 at a award giving Ceremony held at Darjeeling.
Smt. Anita Rai, Asst. Teacher of Kumudini Homes Primary Section have been honoured with Nation Builder Award by Rotary Club of Kalimpong on the Teachers Day, 5th of September at a ceremony held at Ramakrishna Ranga Manch (Town Hall), Kalimpong.
Myself was awarded with ‘Siksha Ratna Award 2018’ by Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal on 5th September 2018 at a Award giving Ceremony held at Najrul Manch, Golpark, Kolkata. We all are felicitated by many schools, organizations for our achievement.
Captain, Vice-Captain and Prefects and Child Cabinet:- To impart training to the students and to involve them in the maintenance of discipline, the school has been organizing a team of Prefects with Captain and Vice-Captain. Moreover, under Sarva Siksha Mission, child cabinet consisting of a number of students have been formed. Cabinet has been given a number of responsibilities which all students members are performing with great zeal and enthusiasm.
School Managing Committee:- New Managing Committee for three years term was formed and started to manage and taking care of the school w.e.f- 1st of October, 2018.
Bagpiper Band:- Under the able guidance of Sri. Priya Darshi Lama Asst Teacher and Band Instructor, school Bagpiper Band is imparting training to the interested students and also presenting it’s show in and around Kalimpong. This year our School Band was also invited to Pune for the presentation and escort in a function.
Excursion, Tour & Hiking:- To impart practical knowledge tour, excursion, hiking etc. have been regularly organizing by the school. Our students visited Damsanggari, Sileri village, Siliguri Science Centre, Siliguri Safari, Tea factory, Hydel power station, Darjeeling etc. and have gained a lot of knowledge. Even teachers have also undertaken a tour to Andaman & Nicobar Island where they have experienced a view of Cellular jail, Volcanic Island, rare Jarwa tribe, the beauty of nature etc. about which they have been teaching to the students within a four wall of classroom. Really it’s great experience to them as a means of teaching-learning process.
Kumudini Pariwar:- The association of former students of Kumudini Homes very much attached with the development and progress of school, is always supporting and helping the school. Beside it’s regular support, this year school received a big help for starting the Infirmary.
School Bus:- The school has been serving the students of 3rd Mile to school and back to their home since its inception in 2015. On demand from the guardians from 15th and 16th mile towards school, school is planning to provide second school bus very soon. Contribution from the ex-students attendant has been started. Both schemes are for the welfare of the students.
Kumudini Homes Employees Co-operative Credit Society:- In 2017 KHECCS started drinking water scheme to the students and this year 2018 an infirmary along with appointment of a nurse attendant has been started. Both schemes are for the welfare of the students.
Sishumitra Puraskar:- Our school was awarded with Nirmal Vidyalay Puraskar in 2015-2016 which was a district level puraskar. Again in 2016-2017 school was awarded with state level Sishumitra Puraskar. Award ceremony was held at Kolkata where two students namely Badal Chettri and Sailen Giri and two escort teachers Sri. Rajesh Bhusal and Sri. Bikash Mukhia attended.
Midday Meal:- Under the guidance of Sri. D.K. Pradhan, asst. teacher and the Committee consisting of guardians representative midday meal is regularly being served to the students.
Smart Class:- To make the teaching-learning process more easily understandable and interesting school has planned to start Smart class from the next academic year 2019. Hope this step of school will be a great help to the students.
In conclusion, it is said that in spite of our effort still we feel that we are not able to do what we are supposed to do. Teaching-learning process is never ending process. Everyday we have to come across a lot of hurdles and to face new challenges. But we are not tired of it and not losing our courage. We are trying to equip our self to make us fit to face the new challenges be it academic or co-curricular or any other.
Anyway, in our effort in sailing the ship of the school, we were in need of the active support and the co-operation from many corners while the school has been receiving for which we want to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to all concerned. First of all, we sincerely thank Almighty God for his blessing, guidance and protection. We are also grateful to Sri. Norden Lama, the President as well as all the members of the School Managing Committee for their active co-operation. Our sincere thanks also goes to all the concerned authorities – Chairman, Vice Chairman and Members of the Board of Administrators, GTA; District Inspector of Schools, S.E. & P.E.; Assistant Inspector of Schools S.E. & P.E.; Department of Education, GTA; Department of Education, Govt. of West Bengal; West Bengal Board of Secondary Education; West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education; Department of Minority and Backward classes; Secretary and members of Kumudini Pariwar and all concerned societies and association like Bal Suraksha Abhiyan, World Vision of India, Kalyan Ashram, HANDS, Sunakhari Trust, Sindebong, Shiloam Home; Rotary Club of Kalimpong; President, Secretary and Members of GTA Headmasters’ Association; President, Secretary and Members of Sanyukta Madhyamik Shikshak Kalyan Sangathan, GTA; Kalimpong Sports Association and finally to all parents, guardians and well wishers.
Personally I am also grateful to Sri. Rajendra Kr. Pradan, the Senior Master and all my colleagues for their energetic, active and vibrant support. Without their concern and support it would not be possible to sail the ship of school alone. So BIG THANKS to them all.
I also take this opportunity to thank all schools, associations, individuals, well-wishers for felicitating me on being awarded with Siksha Ratna Award 2018.
