New Mathabhanga High School (HS) was primarily established on 2nd January 1980 near PWD field at Matiarkuthi village which is in Block-II of Mathabhanga subdivision, district Cooch Behar. The feeding villages of the school are Manabari, Ververi Manabari, Khalaigaon, Matiarkuthi, Bhojoner Chhara, Sitkibari, Taurikata, Bhogmara, Baraibari, Shildanga etc. Some local residents interested in education such as Sri Satish Chandra Dutta, Sri Jogendra Chandra Debnath, Sri Asutosh Dutta, Sri Subhash Bhowmik, Sri Kshirod Barman, Babulal Debsingha and others with immense interest and effort collected the required land in Matiarkuthi (Kashiyabari) near Amtala within one kilometer of Mathabhanga-II BDO office beside 16/A State Highway. Sri Satish Chandra Dutta and Sri Jogendra Chandra Debnath donated 2 Bighas of land each with the great purpose to set up the school. Later on the local MLA cum Minister Sri Dinesh Chandra Dakua, Sri Nityananda Dey member of Panchayet Samiti of Block-II (Mathabhanga) and some people’s heartiest effort and co-operation the New Mathabhanga High School achieves its recognition from West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in the year 1987. At the time of newly approved school Sri Bhabatosh Dutta acted as the Teacher-in-Charge. Sri Gopal Chandra Debnath, Sri Mrinal Debnath, Sri Goutam Basu, Sri Sudhangshu Kumar Patowary were appointed as Assistant Teachers in different subjects, Sri Bashudeb Sarkar as Clark and Sri Bhabendra Nath Barman as Gr-D staff. At the very beginning the school was only for boys students but afterwards it became a Co-educational institution. Sri Ajit Kumar Barman was appointed as Head Master in 1992. The Head Master and the school Managing Committee extended the area of the school by purchasing 2 Bighas of land and at present the school covers the area about 6 Bighas. The school gradually upgraded from Junior to Upper Primary (1987), High School (1997) and Higher Secondary in 2015 and also new teachers are being appointed gradually. Sri Ajit Kumar Barman was retired on September 2017 and at present the Assistant Head Master Sri Madhab Chandra Barman functioning as Teacher-in- Charge.
