The Evolution of Today’s Sekendra High School (H.S)

Every school has its own background as well as past history- either it is glorious or eventful. And today’s Sekendra High School (H.S) is not out of it. The first word of the sekendra name has come from the village name where it has kept its head high.

Year 1962 where sekendra  Junior High School manifests its real existence as a ‘ temple of education’ through foundations puja with the financial assistance , mental support , selfless dedication, good co-operation, firm determination and beliefs and eyeful dream of making a good society of  some then sekendrian young chaps like Sishir kumar Das, Probhat Kumar Das, Lolit Kumar Pal, Jitendralal Mitra, Bimalendu Kumar Das and Brojolal Ghosh in the donated land of Gopinath Sarkar a man of intense insight and dream of making an ideal society, who also lived at Sekendra .  Anyway, all of the above dreamt of making a school i.e a factory to produce ‘human resources’, necessary for mankind in such a backward area from all sides – educationally, culturally, financially, morally and sociably and bring a revolution as well as a radical change of the area through the dazzling light of education eradicating the darkness of illiteracy, a social curse. Because they could comprehend that ‘knowledge is power and only a school can provide education to live better and make progress for tomorrow. Moreover, it can bring a storm to change a society drastically. At that time in that area there were no school , no electricity, no transport, no communication system, no hospital, no pitched road, no library , no water supply and so on. Above all, the total area was under darkness from all sides.

As usual the school starts its uneven journey in a very slow motion to reach at its goal taking 110- 125 students of classes V & VI respectively along with overall t teaching and non-teaching staff under the organized headmastership Jitendralal Mitra.

On 1st January ,1963 , the school gets affiliation of teaching V & VI classes from the Parsad though the teaching with the other staff did not get any salary from the Government at that time. Instead they enjoyed very poor honorarium, distributed among them from the collection of students’ monthly fees.

The way on which the school was walking forward, was not smooth at all. It had to overcome so many hazards on its path. Further to say, to get students in the school at that time was not only a difficult job but also a challenging one. As a result, the teachers and the other staff now and then went door to door with a view to catch students for the school because they thought that education can bring consciousness and consciousness can came revolution can change a society as well as a country rationally.

Year 1966 when the Prasad recognizes the school as Sekendra Junior High School and grant the affiliation of teaching V-VIII classes in the school. And from this time the school staff got oxygen in their veins because they were considered after all, as Government salary holder employees though they drew very poor( fixed) salary from the government.

The good news comes in 1979 when some additional posts become vacant and in 1986 when three more additional posts are sanctioned in favour of the school. It is to say that up to 1986 in the school there were a few rooms, built of clay and bamboo with thatched roof instead of pucca rooms owing to not getting any financial help for school building purpose from the Government.

This time the school steps ahead with 350-370 students and 9 teachers to achieve the goal. Now four pucca rooms are framed with the financial help of the local and neighboring people and the teachers involved in the school to continue teaching learning process and other official works concerned smoothly.

On 1st January in the year  1987 Sekendra Junior High School is transferred to Sekendra High School (X class) by the Parsad and at the same time the school is permitted to appoint six more bona fide teachers for the betterment of the students. It is note worthy that in the month of the june of the year 1976 the Honorable Headmaster Jitendralal Mitra takes his last breath and then the bona fide A.T Bimalendu Kumar Das holds the anchor of the school unanimously as HM and the school gets much speed in its walking path. But also time snatches away him from the lap of the earth in 1993. Anyway, in the next few years the school got two bona fide Assistant Teacher – Gopalchandra Das and Sukumar Sinha as TIC who tried their beat to accomplish the incomplete works of the previous Headmasters. Actually, they were the eye balls not only to the pupils but also to the local people for their true benevolence and generosity.

Then Sri Tapas Kumar Roy, a versatile personality joins in the school as HM on 1st January 1997 and holds the radar of the school firmly and as a result ,the school gets much motion in its feet. On 1st July,2002 Sekendra High School is upgraded to Sekendra H.S. School by the council and the school firstly starts H.S section with ‘Arts Stream’ and the permission of opening ‘Science Stream’ comes later on 20th December in the year 2013.

Year 2012 and January month when the multitalented HM Tapas Kumar Ray retires officially from his job keeping his artistic mark in the ‘sweet heaven’. And from February, 2012 to mid-September ,2019 the school again got two bona fide teacher ABA Anisuzzaman(AHM) Md. Alamgir Alam (AT) as TIC to gear up its speed successfully and accelerate its quality from all sides. Time will remember their multi-activity as they both have inscribed as TIC for all round development of the institution.

And now from mid-september,2019 the respected Headmaster Sri Sujit Kumar Das runs the school smoothly and in this regard it should be marked that all the staff( both teaching & non-teaching), the academic council , the managing committee of the school and above all, the guardians, the local and neighboring people, the education interested persons and the well-wishers of the school are always whole heartedly with the school to make it ‘a miniature of society’ in its true sense and to fulfill the ‘mission and vision’ of the school founders for whom the school will high for ever.

This school has produced many great persons who are serving people in different ways in India and abroad. And with this, the total area has got its pulse and vitality as well avoiding all difficulties, existed before.

In fine, it is to say that once the school was a baby plant. Gradually, it grows with proper care and nourishment and struggles hard for existence. But now it is a tree – a big full grown tree –a big full grown and deep-rooted banyan tree. And it shall grow more and more and spread its fragrance in future.
