"Knowledge is power, knowledge is emancipation, knowledge is truth". With this principle in mind the foundation stone of Minakhan Jatindranath Balika Vidyalaya (H.S) was laid long back in 1975 for furthering the noble mission of women's education. Son of late Jatindranath Sarkar, renowned educationist and social worker, late Hirankumar Sarkar with his advanced thoughts clearly realized  that the real progress of the society is possible only when women, who comprise half of the society become educated .With the active co-operation of the educated and socially conscious people of the locality, our educational Institute was established, though with the handful of students. Since then has been a steady progress, the flame of women's Education and Empowerment has been burning bright in its full glory among the girl students in this area,  who have proved their worth and fetched laurels in all spheres of life with the untiring efforts of the teachers. However, it has not been a smooth sailing. As the only girls school in the Minakhan Block, the school got government affiliation in 1980.  In the beginning there was just a small brick structure without even the basic amenities like electricity, running water or telephone connection. But the resilient attitude and untiring efforts of the founder, teachers, Managing committee members and staff along with the students and guardians finally got its reward  and the school was upgraded to Madhyamik level with the affiliation of W.B.B.S.E in 1998 and Higher secondary level in 2007 with the affiliation of the W.B.C.H.S.E. Since then there has been no looking back. Along with excelling in the academic sphere, there has been remarkable improvement in infrastructure as well. The school is now a sprawling three storied building with many wings. Financial assistance has been received from various quarters-MP(Rajyasabha) and MLA grants, SSA, SSM, RMSA along with education department. Also there has been whole-hearted co-operation from the Minority Affairs Department, Youth Development Department ant Sundarban Development Department. Along with the school building we now have a well- equipped Mini indoor complex, IT and Healthcare lab and last but not the least a wonderful open- air auditorium in the school ground where different educational and cultural programs are irregularly held. Along with the general stream, we now have a vocational training department and IT-Healthcare Training under N.S.Q.F Project(Central Government) which have been offering various training to our students and even those from outside to become self- sufficient in future. We firmly believe in mental enrichment of our students along with academics, so that they become good human beings and prove themselves as worthy citizens of the nation. The torch of women's education kindled in the past is still in its full grandeur and we firmly believe that it shall continue like this for time immemorial. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan has rightly said “The end-product of education should be a free creative man, who can battle against historical circumstances and adversities of nature.”
