This school had begun its journey way back in 1948. It was known as “Multipurpose Experimental School”. Then it began as an institute to facilitate the training of the trainee teachers of Banipur PGBT College, under the initiative of Mr. Himanshu Bimal Majumder, the then Principal of the College. The institute was modeled after Gandhiji’s Concept of “Basic Training”. As part of the curricualam of Basic Training making of thread using Handloom, breeding honey bees for processing boney etc were taught in the school. The students even had to do farming and were given an all-round education including lessons on cleaniless & hygine through cleaning of classrooms even toilets. The school began with classes IV to VIII and in the year 1965 was upgraded to class X. However with the passage of time, due to lack of demand the basic training activities gradually stopped and in the 1980’s the school was officially undertaken by the State Govt. and was put under the D.P.I. The above history has been adequately represented in the present name of the school Government B.C.M. School, Banipur.

In the year 2003 the school got its H.S. registration and began classes in the Humanities stream permission for Science Stream was received in 2010. Over the years the school has had to overcome the hurdles of lack of staff, lack of infrastructure, lack of students and many others. But presently the school is running successfully with a decent number of students & teachers and a proper infrastructure.
