Dakshineswar Sri Sri Saroda Devi Balika Vidyamandir is the primus inter pares among all girls' schools in Dakshineswar area, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal . Dakshineswar is inextricably  associated with Goddess Kali and our Holy Mother , Sri Sri Saroda Devi. Thus it was quite inevitable,  that a need for setting up a school exclusively for girls in the area, was deeply felt by some social thinkers  and well-wishers of the local community. Since the idea of such a school was first conceived in 1953, the birth centenary year of Sri Sri Saroda Devi, the school is named after our Holy Mother. The founder members ,whose untiring endeavours established our school , are hereby mentioned with deep reverence and gratitude- Mr. Shaileshchandra Biswas, Mr. Satishchandra Das, Mr. Nirmal Kumar Chatterjee,  Mr. Fanibhushan Maitra , Mr. Pinakilal Banerjee,  Mr. Lakshikanta Chatterjee, Mr. Sunil Kumar Banerjee , Mr. Bibhutibhushan Banerjee,  Mr. Rameshchandra Som, Mr. Kalichandra Porel, Mr. Prakashchandra Chatterjee, Doctor Jaminimohan Chatterjee,  Mr. Shailendranath Banerjee, Mr.Madhusudan Pal and Mr. Sushilkumar Mukherjee. The initiative and relentless efforts of these members, after struggling with various obstacles, social and financial, finally met with success in the year 1955, and Dakshineswar Sri Sri Saroda Devi Balika Vidyamandir came into being. The school is set up in the residential settlement land of the great 'Dadamoshai' of Bengali literature,  Mr. Kedarnath Banerjee. In January, on the day of Saraswati puja,  the gate opening ceremony of the institution was held. The ceremony was presided by the then honourable governor of West Bengal, Mr. Harendranath Mukherjee. But there was still much left to be done for the school to be eligible for getting recognition from the government. Generous financial contribution from and collected by the founder members ,was made for completing the process of construction of the school building, and for the payment of remuneration to the respected teachers of the school. The invaluable advice and assistance of the then Head of Rajkumari  Balika Vidyalay also contributed to the process of establishing our school. Initially, our school started her journey with 50 local students, and classes upto standard IX were conducted. Next year, class X was introduced in school. The unflinching efforts of our founder members gathered 8 examinees, who appeared from our school in the class X examination for the first time in our school. All these students came out with flying colours in the board examination. Thus, the school proved herself deserving of the government  recognition achieved. Eventually,  Dakshineswar Sri Sri Saroda Devi Balika Vidyamandir  earned the government recognition as a Higher secondary school,  on her own merit, with the permission to impart education in Science, Commerce and Humanities streams. Mention must also be made of the tireless enterprise of Mr. Sunil Kumar Banerjee , who achieved government recognition for the primary section of our school. Today, the obstacles and contribution that inspired the tireless striving , that '...stretches its arms towards perfection...', - have borne fruit. Dakshineswar Sri Sri Saroda Devi Balika Vidyamandir is now a renowned higher secondary school, hailing on its own terms as an institution of disciplined all-round development, imparting, to each individual student of its own , knowledge , that truly emancipates, - within and without. 🙏
