History

Here , in West Bengal beside the Ganges , stands our Hooghly Girls’ High School which is our pride - pride to each and everyone who is attached to this school in his or her own way.

Now if we look at the history of this renowned institution it goes back to the beginning of the 20th century when Mrs Rex , a missionary lady kindled the light of education in her residence with only four students. On her death bed, she entrusted the responsibility of female education on the shoulders of Sri Kalyan Chandra Boral. Sri K.C. Boral then in the year 1920 at his own residence set up the Hooghly Girls' School and female education started. After some time, Sri KC Boral took the initiative to buy the land for the establishment of Hooghly Girls’ School.

In his noble endeavour he got the assistance of Sri Rishikesh Majumdar and some local people. In the year 1930 , schooling started in the new building in a new way. The name changed to Hooghly Girls' High School when the institution became government aided. During that time female education was unacceptable in our society. Sri K.C Boral along with his friend Rishikesh Majumder went for a door to door campaign so that the girls in their families are sent for schooling. When the School was built Mr K.C Boral took voluntary retirement from his job at National Bank and used all his money for the construction of the school. The teachers who came to school from a far distance were welcomed to stay in his residence with due respect and comfort. We take pride in paying our respect to the first student of this prestigious institution Geeta Banerjee and she is the mother of our retired Headmistress Ruma Mukherjee . Along with her came the daughters of Roy Bahadur Satish Mukherjee and that started spreading the light of female education in the society. We at present who are the torch-bearers of this institution resolve to remain united and make this school our joy , our pride and fly our flag high.
