                                       A BRIEF HISTORY OF CHHANADAR GOURISANKAR HIGH SCHOOL(H.S.)

While recollecting the history of Chhandar Gourisankar High School, we remember with defetence the name of Shashanka Shekhar Mukhopadhyay whose mission in life was to spread education among the students of the rural areas as well as Manik Chandra Mukhopadhyay (his 2nd Son),a true lover of education . Gourisankar, the eldest son of Shashanka Babu, died prematurely. In remembrance of him he made up his mind to set up a school after his (Gourisankar) name in this village, Chhandar. So, he donated six thousand rupees in cash and six bighas land for the establishment of Chhandar Gourisankar Nimna Buniadi Vidyalay in1950. In course of time this school developed into a high school and was recognized by WBBSE in 1966 . Shashanka Babu and his proficient son Manik Chandra Mukhopadhyay played the pivotal role in building this great institution in village Chhandar, the Shantiniketan of Bankura.  In 2002 the school was upgraded to a Higher secondary school with permission to teach Arts and Science subjects . But due to lack of teachers only arts subjects were introduced .In 2015 science stream was started and the success of science stream is remarkable .In 2009 the Golden Jubilee celebration was observed with pomp & grandeur . Since its inception a number of sincere, dedicated teachers and staff have rendered their valuable service to make this school an excellent centre of learning . Krishna Gopal Das was the founder Headmaster of this school.After his retirement Ajit Prasad Mushib joined as Headmaster. Dr. Sobhan Banerjee has been working as Headmaster since 2022. We remember with pride and pleasure that Ishita Chattopadhyay, a student of our school secured the 9th position in the state rank in H.S Examination in 2019.
