Chetla Girls' High School has been a prestigious educational institution of Chetla for the past eighty two years. It's foundation dates back to 1938. There is an interesting story associated with its establishment. There is a hearsay that Tripura Sundari Devi, a paramour, who believed that the darkness associated with the sufferings of women can only be illuminated with the light of knowledge and education donated the savings of her entire life for building the school. The school started its journey with twelve students in 66/1 Joynuddi Mistri Lane, on 16th of January 1938. Initially, it was a secondary school. The institution was upgraded to a Higher secondary School in 1981. As the number of students started increasing,, it became essential to increase the number of classrooms. Hence, a second building was added to the original building in the attached playground when the school was upgraded to a Higher Secondary school in 1981. As the school offered many subjects and the success rate of students went on increasing, there arose a local demand for increasing the number of seats . As a result, a third building had to be erected in addition to the former two. The contribution of the then Secretary and Headmistress and all the teachers in raising funds for the same is praiseworthy. The building was completed in 2007 and was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of GOWB , Smt Mamata Banerjee in 2010. The school which began its journey with twelve students at present, has an enrolment over 800 and provides many ultra modern facilities like computer training and smart classrooms and English Medium classes has been introduced since2018.
