Margaret (Sister Nivedita) English School owed its genesis to the philantrophic sentiments of the illustrious Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashram,Siliguri, a branch of Ramakrishna Vedanta Math, Kolkata which in early 50's of twentieth century sought to create a somewhat different educational institution enriched with moral and spiritual teachings.I feel proud and honoured that this school has already crossed half a century in 2016.
An institution is a place where the talents are identified, nourished and led to flourish and fructify in the years to come.In the span of more than 50 years, this school has assisted its students to inculcate in themselves the feelings of brotherhood, social awareness, values of service and morality together with a sharp knowledge and understanding and this has been possible because of Thakur Sri Ramkrishna's blessings that bestowed upon us round the clock. It is HE who ultimately reveals the depth of our resources and strengthens our inherent potentiality and latent spirits to strive to ever higher levels of excellence and perfection.
Although my association with the school as Headmaster dates back to the year 2011 but since then I have been shouldering the responsibilities of taking this school, the temple of divine knowledge, ever forward on the path of progress and achievement. Of Course, my heart fills with admiration and pride for all of my co-workers, members of managing committee, guardians and parents for their good wishes and continued patronage to make this school remarkable in Siliguri educational district and also in the state as well.
Some key points:-
Special Management and Autonomy:- Ramakrishna Vedanta Ashram has been entrusted with the task of conducting this school accompanied with the special rule in terms of formation of Managing Committee.In 2013, this school has been given the autonomous power to appoint teaching and non-teaching staff in sanctioned and vacant post instead of recruitment throuigh School Service Commission (SSC).
Bi-media Institution:- It is the first institute in Siliguri sub-division where the students are taught in two different mediums (English and Bengali) and thus offering a wide scope to the people of multi-lingual community of this area. Even the students get oppurtunity to choose the First and Second language from English,Bengali and Hindi upto Class XII.
Academic Results:- Since 1971 onwards, the students had done outstanding performances in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examination. Percentage of successful students in MP and HS exams ranges from 95% to100%. A huge no. of students of this school occupied highly dignified chairs of different disciplines in their next phase of life. It will be a mamoth task for me to recall the names of all these brilliant students in my writings, rather I have a fear if I forget one name that might happen unwillingly and could hurt the students. Instead, I would like to utilize this oppurtunity to convey my heartfelt wishes and greetings to all of them.
Transportation and Hostel:- This school has its own transportation facilities under the control of Ashram authority. Till to-date 6 buses ply everyday to collect the students from different corners of Siliguri sub-division. In addition, a limited no. of students, specially of distant residence get the scope to avail Ashram's boys' hostel under direct supervision of Secretary, revered Swami Muktikamananda and thus achieve practical knowledge on commitment of social service, spiritual thoughts and understanding.
Library:- The students are inspired to use school library in a more befitting manner in order to aquire consciousness on various topics apart from text book oriented knowledge.
Consumer club:- Recently a consumer club comprising of 40 students have been formed in school under the instruction of the office of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs,W.B in order to motivate awareness among themselves and others about the role of consumer while purchasing any type of items from market, etc. Sri Arga Singha and Sri Biswajit Roy are in-charge of the club.
CCTV Installation and Bio-Metric Attendance:- At present almost every corner of school is uder CCTV surveillance to keep a constant invigilance over the activities of the student and to stop untoward incidents as well. At the same time it is also remarkable that biometric machine has been installed first in this school in Siliguri Educational Dist.for synchronizing attendance of all staff.
Sister school:- In the same school campus, two different schools namely Ramkrishna Urban Junior basic school(Bengali Medium) and Sister Nivedita English School(English School) are being run simultaneously in morning shift under the control of same RKVA authority After completing their education, these students take admission directly in Margaret (Sister Nivedita) English school(day-shift).
Role of Revered Swamijis:- I was quite enchanted when I came in contact with all revered Swamijis of Ramkrishna Vedanta school. There constant inspiration along with spiritual thoughts and valuable advice helped me a lot for smooth conduct of the school. Swamiji's valuable speech on different contemporary topics not only touches everyone's heart but also motivates and enriches the students needed for well being.
But still we don't have any motive to block the road of success, because there is enough space for progress and achivements and we are proceeding towards it. The only thing required is to get all of our well- wisher's fully extended disinterested support and heart felt co-operation.
I wish the family of Margaret (S.N) English School a glorious future ahead.
